Twitter Card Generator

The Twitter Card Generator creates the meta tags needed to control how a page appears when shared on X (formerly Twitter), including the card type, title, description, and image.

Why Twitter Cards Are Separate From Open Graph Tags

X uses its own meta tag namespace (prefixed with twitter: rather than og:) to control share appearance, distinct from the Open Graph tags Facebook and LinkedIn read. While X does fall back to Open Graph tags if Twitter Card tags are absent, having dedicated Twitter Card tags gives more precise control over the card format and ensures a consistent, intentional appearance rather than relying on a fallback.

Card Types Worth Knowing

  • Summary card — a compact format with a small square image alongside title and description text, suited for standard articles and pages.
  • Summary card with large image — a more visually prominent format featuring a large, wide image above the text, generally producing higher engagement for content-heavy shares.
  • Player card — embeds video or audio playback directly within the share, used for media-focused content.

Testing Before You Share

X caches card data once a URL has been shared or previewed, so it's worth validating the card appearance using X's own card validation tool before the first public share, since a broken or incorrect preview can persist in the cache and be difficult to force-refresh afterward.
