Not all passwords that look complex are actually strong. This tool analyzes character variety, length, predictable patterns and common password lists to give you an accurate strength score — not just a basic visual meter.

Does my password get stored or sent anywhere?
No — the password you type is analyzed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. It is never sent to any server, logged, or stored anywhere. You can disconnect from the internet and the tool will still work perfectly.
What makes a password strong?
A strong password has at least 12 characters and uses a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols. Longer is better — each additional character multiplies the number of possible combinations exponentially. Avoid dictionary words, names, and sequential patterns like "123456" or "qwerty".
What does the crack time mean?
The estimated crack time is based on a brute-force attack trying billions of password combinations per second. Modern GPUs can test 10+ billion combinations per second. A password rated "Excellent" would take centuries to crack even with powerful hardware — but weak passwords can fall in seconds.
Is a longer password always better?
Yes — length is the single most important factor. A random 20-character lowercase-only password is stronger than a 10-character password with all character types. The best strategy is to combine length with variety: 16+ characters using all four character types.
How does the data breach check work — is my password sent anywhere?
We use the Have I Been Pwned "k-anonymity" API. Your password is hashed with SHA-1 entirely in your browser, and only the first 5 characters of that hash are sent to the API — never your actual password or the full hash. The API returns all breach hashes sharing that prefix, and the match is found locally in your browser. This is the same privacy-preserving method used by 1Password and Bitwarden.
Why did a long, complex-looking password still score low?
Character variety alone doesn't guarantee strength. This checker also flags predictable patterns — keyboard sequences like "qwerty" or "12345", repeated characters, and known breached/common passwords — because attackers try these first, regardless of length. A password that passes every check here has no obviously guessable structure.
