What is BIMI?
BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) is a DNS-published standard that lets your verified brand logo appear next to your emails in supporting inboxes, rewarding domains with strong, enforced email authentication.
Why won't a regular SVG file work?
BIMI requires SVG Tiny PS (Portable/Secure), a deliberately restricted SVG profile that strips out scripting, external references, and other features that could be exploited. Most design tools export standard SVG, which needs to be converted to this profile first.
Do I need a Verified Mark Certificate?
It depends on the provider. Gmail generally requires a VMC (or a Common Mark Certificate for government/nonprofit entities) for the logo to display. Some other providers will show your logo without one, based on domain reputation alone.
Why isn't my logo showing up after I published the record?
The most common causes are an unenforced DMARC policy (p=none instead of quarantine/reject), a logo file that isn't valid SVG Tiny PS, or a missing VMC for providers that require one. DNS propagation delay can also account for a short wait.
Is BIMI worth setting up for a small business?
If you already have SPF, DKIM, and an enforced DMARC policy, adding the free BIMI record itself costs nothing and can improve brand recognition in supporting inboxes. A VMC is a paid add-on and only worth it if Gmail display specifically matters to you.
Can I have multiple BIMI records with different logos?
Yes, by using different selectors (e.g. campaign-specific selectors) — each selector points to its own BIMI record, similar to how DKIM selectors work.
